Thankful

Our dining room

‘Twas the night before Thanksgiving and all through the house…it’s completely silent because my children are at daycare, M is at work, and I’m home baking cookies and writing until it’s time for daycare pick up.

I’m thankful for a moment of quiet before four days of solo parenting. I’m thankful for my cozy home and the smell of orange and cinnamon coming from the oven. I’m thankful for wonderful daycare providers who love on our kids, providing me peace of mind while I’m at work and allowing me opportunities for alone time, too, when I take a day off.

I’m thankful for our amazing friends, who joined us last weekend for Friendsgiving. It was a great excuse to use the fancy china and let the kids run around until they melted down with such gusto that the adults looked at each other and promptly said, “We gotta go.” It feels great to be building community. M and I love hosting and always want to have an “open doors” house. By now our friends know not to knock and most know where the silverware is and that nothing is too sacred or precious.

We added a card table and were able to fit 13 around the table for dinner.
Marked down flowers, clippings from our yard, and $0.19 pumpkins made for a simple but festive table.

I’m thankful for the opportunity to decorate my sister’s apartment. It was a fun couple of hours displaying her treasures and finding creative solutions to the zero dollar budget we set for decorating. For example, she wanted a new headboard, but instead of spending money on a new one, I quickly upholstered her existing wood headboard with a old quilt.

I’m thankful for the chance to paint. I haven’t painted or refinished furniture for months, mostly due to grad school and work and parenting. So it was especially rewarding to flip three pieces in one day.
